Saturday 26th April 2008 will be remembered for many years to come as a moment to savor for the members of Highley Colliery Band. The bands 15th Anniversary Concert took place in front of a sell out audience at the Severn Centre in Highley. The concert opened with Fanfare and Soliloqy (T Sharpe) then the band continued with the march Star Lake (E Ball) as this was the first piece performed publicly by the band 15 years ago. Apart from its regular members the band was also joined by a few explayers for the celebration. The bands special guests were The Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir who entertained the crowd with their fine welsh voices. These lads always enjoy theirselves and their infectious enthusiasm soon spread through the audiance. Their Musical Director Mike Thomas recalled the first time the choir visited Highley 11 years ago, since then the link between Highley and their village Tonmawr in South Wales has continued. The band and choir joined forces at the end of the concert to perform Speed Your Journey chorus of The Hebrew Slaves. Throughout the concert the history of the band past and present was portrayed in words by our capable compere Mr Dale Parmenter as a variety of images were projected on a screen behind the band. All proceeds from the event were donated to local charity. Specials thanks to all the members of the Pelenna Male Voice Choir. Dale Parmenter for his technical wizardry with the pictures .
